Thesis & Dissertation Binding - Indiana University Binding Specifications
We bind theses and dissertations based on the Indiana University specifications – which require machine oversewn binding and a hard cover in black buckram material with gold foil stamping of full title and full name on the front cover, and full title and last name on the spine. If the book is less than 0.75 inch thick, there is a maximum of 85 characters and spaces for the title and last name to be stamped on the spine.

Library buckram is available in a variety of colors, we are glad to accommodate the cover material and stamping requirements of many different schools and individuals. Students are responsible for informing us of the requirements of their particular department, school or university.

Normal 21-day Service and Rush 7-day Service
When you bring in or ship to us your printed thesis, we offer two schedules, a Rush 7-day Service and a Normal 21-day Service (counted as calendar days).

If you email a pdf of your thesis or dissertation, we can print and bind it on a 28-day schedule. Extra fees for file preparation and printing will apply.

Collation Fee
We will be glad to carefully check each volume for correct and complete page numbering and page orientation prior to binding for a modest fee.

Delivery
We offer courier delivery within Indianapolis or UPS delivery to all other locations. Deliveries within the state of Indiana are usually next day.

Extra Thickness Fee
There is a possible small surcharge for extra thickness (over 1 inch) due to the additional sewing time involved.

Long Title Typesetting Fee
There is also a typesetting fee if the title and author name run over 80 characters and spaces. The long title fee applies to the entire order and does not increase with the number of copies.

Short Title for the Spine
If your thesis is under 0.75 inch thick, your title and last name must fit on the spine in one line. The maximum number of characters and spaces in one line is 85. Please supply a shortened title for the spine of any thesis or dissertation that is less than 0.75 inch thick.

Payment is in Cash, Money Order or PayPal Email Invoice Only
It is also our company policy that all payments for thesis or dissertation binding must be in cash or money order due to students closing accounts as they finish their studies. Orders that are picked up can be paid for at that time. All other orders must be paid-in-full prior to shipping.

We are now able to offer the convenience of using a major credit card to pay for your order. Simply ask us to send a PayPal credit card invoice to your email address. This is a much easier and faster way to pay, especially for rush or long distance orders. Please call for details. We are not able to accept credit card purchases in our office at the time of pick-up.

Information Needed for Estimates
Please call or email if you would like an estimate. The cost of binding each copy of your thesis or dissertation decreases with the number of copies bound. We will need to know the number of copies, your choice of Rush 7-day Service or Normal 21-day Service, your thesis title and full name, your choice of collation or ‘bind as is,’ and your choice of pick-up or delivery. A delivery address will help with the calculation of shipping.

Submitting Files for Printing and Binding
We will be glad to print, bind and deliver your thesis or dissertation on a 28-day schedule. Please be sure to embed your fonts in the pdf and email it to nlbco@nlbco.com. If you include a memo with your street address and telephone number, the number of copies required, your choice of 100% cotton paper or 20lb. standard copy bond, and your choice of pick-up or delivery, then we will be able to respond with a price quote for your approval prior to printing.
